Diffusion and ballistic transport in one-dimensional quantum systems.
It has been conjectured that transport in integrable one-dimensional systems is necessarily ballistic. The large diffusive response seen experimentally in nearly ideal realizations of the S=1/2 1D Heisenberg model is therefore puzzling and has not been explained so far. Here, we show that, contrary to common belief, diffusion is universally present in interacting 1D systems subject to a periodi...
متن کاملBallistic transport in one-dimensional loops with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling
We discuss the combined effect of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions in polygonal loops formed by quantum wires, when the electron are injected in a node and collected at the opposite one. The conditions that allow perfect localization zero transmission coefficient are found. Furthermore, we investigate the suppression of the transmission coefficient oscillations that appear, in the...
متن کاملPartly occupied Wannier functions.
We introduce a scheme for constructing partly occupied, maximally localized Wannier functions (WFs) for both molecular and periodic systems. Compared to the traditional occupied WFs the partly occupied WFs possess improved symmetry and localization properties achieved through a bonding-antibonding closing procedure. We demonstrate the equivalence between bonding-antibonding closure and the mini...
متن کاملGeneralized Wannier Functions
We consider single particle Schrodinger operators with a gap in the energy spectrum. We construct a countable set of exponentially decaying functions, which form a complete, orthonormal basis set for the states below the spectral gap. Each such function is localized near a closed surface. Estimates on the exponential decay rate and a discussion of the geometry of these surfaces is included.
متن کاملOne-dimensional transport with dynamic disorder.
We study the mean quenching time distribution and its moments in a one-dimensional N-site donor-bridge-acceptor system where all sites are coupled to a two-state jump bath for arbitrary disorder and an arbitrary ratio kappa identical with /R of the bath jump rate R and the average hopping rate . When kappaN approximately 1, the quenching time distribution has long power-law tails even whe...
